The pair competes alongside Nikola, Tesla and others to create an electric semi.
Executives from the companies said they would jointly produce a new medium-duty truck powered by batteries by the end of 2019, according to Reuters. They also said they would be manufacturing next-gen “big bore” diesels.
The two joined forces last year when Volkswagen took a 16.6 percent stake in Illinois-based Navistar. Executives said they expect the pairing will save $500 million in development costs during the first five years of the union.
